Beginner's guide on qooxdoo

Rich Internet Application (RIA) provides the capability to deliver feature-rich web applications, enables you to develop web applications with most of the desktop application's characteristics, and improves the usability of the web application. Over the last few years, many frameworks have arrived and are available to develop the Rich Internet Applications in different technologies.

qooxdoo is one of the comprehensive open source RIA frameworks. qooxdoo allows you to develop cross-browser RIAs in object-oriented JavaScript, which helps greatly to re-use application code, and hence reduces the application size. It provides a wide range of off-the-shelf UI widgets. qooxdoo comes with a rich feature set when compared to most of the other RIA frameworks. qooxdoo is completely based on JavaScript. It provides a variety of tools to build, optimize, generate documentation, and more. qooxdoo framework supports multiple browsers, multi-language deployment, custom look and feel, unit testing, automation testing, and much more.

In the past few years, all the major Internet applications or enterprise applications have been developed or migrated to RIA to support all the features that are provided in the desktop applications. This helps the organizations to keep the customers happy and also improves application deployment and maintenance.

qooxdoo is an open source framework. It has been there since 2005 and it is a quite stable framework now. If you are watching and waiting for the right time to migrate your application to qooxdoo, this is the right time, in my opinion. Now, there is a beginner's guide on qooxdoo to jumpstart your development on Qooxdoo.

Who is the other person?

I read the book "The Google story" recently.

If you look at few companies who started with small footprint and

succeeded to become a billion revenue company, Each of those companies

was started by only 2 people.

So....., I am just waiting for the other person.

Writing a Book...

I was thinking of writing a book.

Today when I was browsing about the Spring AoP, I ended up on the blog site, A Spring Framework-oriented web-log. By Craig Walls, author of the book "Spring in Action".

I found a blog on writing a book.

In that I got the reference to PragDave's Articles on writing a book.

Might be quite usefull for those who want to write books.

Edward De Bono’s Six Thinking Hats

Recently I have read Edward De Bono’s Six Thinking Hats. Let me share few words about it. Six Thinking Hats method is primarily based on the concept of parallel thinking, which is straight opposite to the conventional individual thinking in a meeting.
According to Edward, individual thinking in a meeting will lead to argument that result in waste of time. On the other hand, parallel thinking provides a framework that allows everyone to think in the same direction and to get the full advantage in all directions. Simple example mentioned in the book is Review of a house. Imagine there are four people viewing the house from different directions (N, S, W, and E). Obviously they all get different opinions about the house, which might conflict each other, that results in an argument. On the other hand, in parallel thinking, everyone view the house from one direction at a time so that everyone applies their thoughts in one direction at a time and everyone agrees with each other. Then move on to the next direction.

Now I’ll brief a bit about the hats. Edward selected the color hats to give different thinking directions.

White – Information and Facts
On wearing White hat, you have to put forward the facts without any emotions.
Basically Neutral Thinking

Black – Cautious
On wearing Black hat, you have to be cautious. Try to figure out all the negative aspects. Basically Negative thinking

Red – Emotion, Feelings, etc.
On wearing Red hat, you can put forward your feelings and emotions formally in the meeting. You don’t have to support the feeling. Basically Emotions

Yellow – Support
On wearing Yellow hat, you can support the proposal with the existing methods.
Basically Positive Thinking

Green – Ideas, Innovation
On wearing green hat, you apply your creativity and bring new innovative ideas.
Basically Creative / Lateral Thinking

Blue – Thinking about thinking, Organization of Thinking
On wearing blue hat, you have to think about the thinking process. Basically Organize the thinking process

I haven’t applied this method anywhere yet, will apply soon and post the experience. Meanwhile if anyone of you has applied this method anywhere, please let me know the effectiveness. Feel free to drop a mail….
